Bridge to Terabithia – A Reflection

BTT

Bridge to Terabithia teaches us lessons that we can apply to our lives and learn how to accept things and seize every moment. Below are some of the theme I consider that reflects me and my life.

First is family, In the story of Bridge to Terabithia, you can see that they really don’t care or doesn’t show love and care especially about Jess. They faces crisis and can’t afford to buy new things like Jess’s shoes. Just like us in our family, we really are not used to show affection but rather make them feel the love by making even the small things we want happen. We faces problems too. My parents will talk about it and make sure that we are aware of what is happening. Jess also don’t show what he truly feels but in the end, he cried in his dad’s arm. Just like me, I don’t really want to show them my weakest point but one time, I burst out crying in front of my dad because I can’t handle anymore the pain of what happened. Bridge to Terabithia shows that you have your family to lean on even at your worst.

Second is friendship. Jess didn’t expected that he will be friends with Leslie just like me when i met my friends. I don’t really know how to make friends so I just kept my silence but they make the way to be friends with me. We became close and do fun things and seek adventures together. We share with one another our thoughts and what we feel. Encourages one another and continued making memories with them because we don’t want the time where we can’t do fun things, do what we love, share laughs and cries together to come.

Imagination is next where you can say that has a lot of contribution in the movie. Jess and Leslie have their own world with the help of their imagination just like me. I create my own world using my imagination. A world where i can be with the person i wanted to be with at the place I wanted the most with the most beautiful view and scenery. It’s so ideal and I felt happy at some point but It’s kinda sad too because that imagination can’t and will never happen in real life.

And this is where the acceptance will take place. Jess eventually accepted the death of his friend, Leslie. Just like how I accepted the fact that things won’t happen even if you really wanted to. Reality speaking, things and people will just come and go to your life and you must accept it to move on for the betterment of yourself and see more life opportunities and happiness.

And lastly, appreciation. When the time where Jess went to a museum for the first time, you can see that he really was enjoying the beauty in it. Just like my first time in a museum which I didn’t tell my parents, instead of taking pictures, I appreciated the art and beauty in it. I was mesmerized how the museum was so aesthetically pleasing. Aside from the appreciation of the beauty of art, we should also appreciate those who are there for us. Friends, family, loved ones. Appreciate everyone’s sacrifices, effort and love for you before it’s too late.
